Scalding engine coolant and steam may shoot out and cause serious injury. It may also damage the engine and cooling system.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool. Even then, be very careful when removing the cap. Wrap a thick cloth around it and slowly turn it counterclockwise to the first stop. Step back while the pressure escapes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>When you are sure all the pressure is gone, press down on the cap using the cloth, turn it, and remove it.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">CAUTION:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>Do not disassemble the water pump housing because it is a precision unit.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If engine coolant remaining in the engine flows out, the electrical components, wiring harnesses and connectors might get wet. Therefore, set aside the electrical components, wiring harnesses and connectors or protect them from getting wet.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Do not hold the pipe when removing\/installing the water pump housing because the pipe may be damaged and the engine coolant may leak.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00005421.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00005421.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See <a href=\"SM352783\">NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION\/CONNECTION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Remove the air cleaner, air hose and resonance chamber No.1 as a single unit. (See <a href=\"SM352729\">INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            3. Drain the engine coolant. (See <a href=\"SM352713\">ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            4. Remove the water pump drive belt with the generator drive belt still installed and set it aside. (See <a href=\"SM352691\">DRIVE BELT REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            5. Remove in the order indicated in the table.<\/p>\n<p>            6. Install in the reverse order of removal.<\/p>\n<p>            7. Refill the engine coolant. (See <a href=\"SM352713\">ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            8. Inspect for engine coolant leakage. Align the water pump pulley hole with the water pump housing hole as shown in the figure.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004242.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004242.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            2. Insert an appropriate bolt ( <b>length 70 mm {2.8 in}<\/b>) into the water pump housing hole shown in the figure and lock the water pump pulley against rotation.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00005422.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00005422.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            3. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.<\/p>\n<p>            4. Remove the bolt used for locking the water pump pulley against rotation.<\/p>\n<p>            5. Remove the water pump pulley.<br \/>\n          <a name=\"id0112h480070002\" id=\"id0112h480070002\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Water Pump Housing Removal Note<\/h4>\n<p>            1. Disconnect the ground.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004244.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004244.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            2. Disconnect the heater hose.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004245.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004245.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            3. Remove the front crossmember under cover. (See <a href=\"SM356179\">FRONT CROSSMEMBER UNDER COVER REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            4. Place a container under the engine to collect the engine coolant remaining in the engine.<\/p>\n<p>            5. Loosen the <b>six<\/b> water pump housing installation bolts and collect the draining engine coolant into a container.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">CAUTION:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>Do not remove the water pump housing completely at this time because the engine coolant remaining in the engine will drain out.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            6. After the engine coolant stops draining, remove the water pump housing.<br \/>\n          <a name=\"id0112h480070003\" id=\"id0112h480070003\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Water Pump Body Removal Note<\/h4>\n<p>            1. Remove the exhaust manifold insulator. (See <a href=\"SM352752\">EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Remove the thermostat. (See <a href=\"SM352717\">THERMOSTAT REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            3. Remove the wiring harness clip using a flathead screwdriver.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00005423.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00005423.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            4. Place a container under the engine to collect the engine coolant remaining in the engine.<\/p>\n<p>            5. Loosen the <b>three<\/b> water pump body installation bolts and collect the draining engine coolant into a container.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">CAUTION:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>Do not remove the water pump body completely at this time because the engine coolant remaining in the engine will drain out.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            6. After the engine coolant stops draining, remove the water pump body.<br \/>\n          <a name=\"id0112h480070004\" id=\"id0112h480070004\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Gasket Installation Note<\/h4>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">CAUTION:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>Do not apply oil (such as engine oil, ATF) to the gasket. Otherwise, it could cause a seal malfunction.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>          <a name=\"id0112h480070005\" id=\"id0112h480070005\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Water Pump Body Installation Note<\/h4>\n<p>            1. Remove sealant around the cylinder block screw holes before installing the water pump body.<\/p>\n<p>            2. Tighten the water pump body installation bolts in the order shown in the figure.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ARDJJW00005670.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ARDJJW00005670.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n                <b>Tightening torque<\/b><\/p>\n<li>\n<p>20???26 N\u00b7m {2.1???2.6 kgf\u00b7m, 15???19 ft\u00b7lbf}<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>            3. Install the wiring harness clip.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004247.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004247.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            4. Install the thermostat. (See <a href=\"SM352717\">THERMOSTAT REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            5. Install the exhaust manifold insulator. Install the front crossmember under cover.
