Remove the transmission. (See <a href=\"SM353167\">AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION [SJ6A-EL]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Remove the torque converter, and immediately turn it so that the hole faces upward. This will help to keep any remaining ATF from spilling.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003548.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003548.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">CAUTION:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>The oil seal can be easily damaged by the sharp edges of the torque converter splines. Do not let the splines contact the oil seal.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Do not drop the torque converter.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Be careful not to get your fingers pinched.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            3. Drain any ATF remaining in the torque converter.<\/p>\n<p>            4. Using a flathead screwdriver, position the drive gear on the oil pump component to the center.<\/p>\n<p>            5. Install the torque converter to the transmission.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003548.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003548.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            6. To ensure that the torque converter is installed accurately, measure distance A between the end of the torque converter and the end of the converter housing.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003549.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003549.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n                <b>Distance A between end of torque converter and face of converter housing<\/b><\/p>\n<li>\n<p>21.4 mm {0.843 in} or more<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            7. Install the automatic transmission. (See <a href=\"SM353167\">AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION [SJ6A-EL]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            8. Perform the mechanical system test.
