Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See <a href=\"SM352783\">NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION\/CONNECTION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Remove the front under cover. (See <a href=\"SM356165\">FRONT UNDER COVER REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            3. Disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear and linkage. (See <a href=\"SM353238\">INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            4. Remove the steering gear and linkage. (See <a href=\"SM353231\">STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            5. Remove the tie-rod. (See <a href=\"SM353232\">STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE DISASSEMBLY<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            6. Verify that there is no damage to or twisting of the tie rod.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>If there is any malfunction, replace the tie rod. (See <a href=\"SM353234\">STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE ASSEMBLY<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            7. Inspect the tie rod for excessive play.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>If there is any malfunction, replace the tie rod. (See <a href=\"SM353234\">STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE ASSEMBLY<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            8. Swing the tie rod <b>10 times<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>            9. Measure the swing torque of the tie rod using a pull scale.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003469.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003469.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n                <b>Tie rod swing torque<\/b><\/p>\n<li>\n<p>0.4\u20144.0 N\u00b7m {4.1\u201440 kgf\u00b7cm, 3.6\u201435 in\u00b7lbf} [Pull scale reading: 2.5\u201425.0 N {0.3\u20142.5 kgf, 0.6\u20145.6 lbf}]<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>If not within the specification, replace the tie rod.
