Before performing the work, verify that the steering gear has cooled down.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">CAUTION:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>The EPS CM will not operate normally if the EPS configuration is not performed. If the EPS CM is replaced, always perform the EPS CM auto configuration so that the EPS operates normally.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If the EPS CM is dropped it could result in internal damage, therefore be careful not to drop it. If the EPS CM receives an impact, replace it.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">NOTE:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>The EPS CM prior to replacement stores the vehicle specification information.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>A new EPS CM does not store any vehicle specification information.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>When the ignition is switched ON (engine off or on) after the EPS CM is replaced, the EPS CM reads the vehicle specification information sent via CAN communication from the instrument cluster and stores it.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See <a href=\"SM352783\">NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION\/CONNECTION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Remove the front under cover. (See <a href=\"SM356165\">FRONT UNDER COVER REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            3. Disconnect the connectors shown in the figure.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003473.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00003473.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            4. Remove the EPS CM. (See <a href=\"\"#id06130080370001\">EPS CM Installation Note<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00005856.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00005856.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            5. Install in the reverse order of removal.<\/p>\n<p>            6. If the EPS CM is replaced, perform the auto configuration using the following procedure.<\/p>\n<p>              a. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on) and wait for <b>1 min or more<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>              b. Switch the ignition off and wait for <b>3 s or more<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>              c. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on) and complete the EPS CM auto configuration.<\/p>\n<p>              d. Clear the DTC. (See <a href=\"SM353206\">CLEARING DTC [EPS CONTROL MODULE]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              e. Switch the ignition off and wait for <b>3 s or more<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>              f. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on) and wait for <b>1 min or more<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>              g. Using the M-MDS, verify that DTCs U2300:54\/U2300:55\/U2300:56 are not displayed.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>If DTCs U2300:54\/U2300:55\/U2300:56 are displayed, go to the DTC troubleshooting procedure. (See <a href=\"SM353210\">DTC U2300:54\/U2300:55\/U2300:56 [EPS CONTROL MODULE]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>          <a name=\"id06130080370001\" id=\"id06130080370001\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>EPS CM Installation Note<\/h4>\n<p>            1. Install the EPS CM so that the projecting part of the EPS CM (rotor) is engaged with the notch in the rubber.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00005370.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00005370.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">NOTE:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>If the projecting part of the EPS CM (rotor) is not engaged with the notch in the rubber, adjust the position of the EPS CM projection (rotor).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            2.
