Do not dispose of a live (undeployed) air bag module or pre-tensioner seat belt. If the SSTs (Deployment tool and Adapter harness) are not available, consult the nearest Mazda representative for assistance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">CAUTION:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>Deploying the air bag modules and pre-tensioner seat belts inside the vehicle may cause damage to the vehicle interior. When the vehicle is not to be scrapped, always deploy the air bag modules and pre-tensioner seat belts outside the vehicle.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>If the vehicle is to be scrapped, or when disposing of any air bag modules or pre-tensioner seat belts, operate (deploy) them inside the vehicle by following the deployment procedure below and using the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>When disposing of an operated (deployed) air bag module and pre-tensioner seat belt, refer to \u201cAIR BAG MODULE AND PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT DISPOSAL PROCEDURES\u201d.(See <a href=\"SM353485\">AIR BAG MODULE AND PRE-TENSIONER SEAT BELT DISPOSAL PROCEDURES [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>          <a name=\"id0810b280110001\" id=\"id0810b280110001\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Deployment Procedure for Inside of Vehicle<\/h4>\n<p>            1. Inspect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b>. (See <a href=\"SM353483\">INSPECTION OF SST (DEPLOYMENT TOOL) [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Move the vehicle to an open space, away from strong winds, and close all of the vehicle doors and windows.<\/p>\n<p>            3. Switch the ignition off.<\/p>\n<p>            4. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for <b>1 min or more<\/b>. (See <a href=\"SM352783\">NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION\/CONNECTION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            5. Follow the procedure below for operating (deploying) the applicable air bag module or pre-tensioner seat belt.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">NOTE:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>The connector part of the air bag module, pre-tensioner seat belt, and the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b> burns out from the high heat when the inflator is operated (deployed).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>          <a name=\"id0810b280110002\" id=\"id0810b280110002\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Driver-side Air Bag Module<\/h4>\n<p>            1. Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See <a href=\"SM353495\">DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Connect the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b> to the driver-side air bag module as shown in the figure.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004045.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004045.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            3. Install the driver-side air bag module. (See <a href=\"SM353496\">DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            4. Connect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> to the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004046.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004046.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            5. Connect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> to the battery. Connect the power supply red clip to the positive battery terminal, and the black clip to the negative battery terminal.<\/p>\n<p>            6. Verify that the red lamp on the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> is illuminated.<\/p>\n<p>            7. Verify that all persons are standing <b>at least 6 m {20 ft}<\/b> away from the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>            8. Press the activation switch on the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> to operate (deploy) the driver-side air bag module.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004047.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004047.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">WARNING:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>The air bag module is very hot immediately after it is operated (deployed). You can get burned. Do not touch the air bag module for at least 15 min after deployment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            9. Disconnect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> from the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b>.<br \/>\n          <a name=\"id0810b280110003\" id=\"id0810b280110003\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Passenger-side Air Bag Module<\/h4>\n<p>            1. Remove the following parts:<\/p>\n<p>              a. Passenger-side scuff plate (See <a href=\"SM356211\">SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              b. Passenger-side front side trim (See <a href=\"SM356199\">FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              c. Passenger-side A-pillar trim (See <a href=\"SM356198\">A-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              d. Passenger-side lower panel (See <a href=\"SM356210\">PASSENGER-SIDE LOWER PANEL REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Remove the duct. (See <a href=\"SM353487\">PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            3. Using a flathead screwdriver, lift the locking device carefully, however do not remove it.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004048.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004048.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            4. Disconnect the passenger-side air bag module connector.<\/p>\n<p>            5. Connect the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b> to the passenger-side air bag module as shown in the figure.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004049.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004049.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            6. Connect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> to the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004046.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004046.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            7. Connect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> to the battery. Connect the power supply red clip to the positive battery terminal, and the black clip to the negative battery terminal.<\/p>\n<p>            8. Disconnect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> from the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b>.<br \/>\n          <a name=\"id0810b280110004\" id=\"id0810b280110004\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Side Air Bag Module<\/h4>\n<p>            1. Disconnect the connector.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004050.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004050.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            2. Connect the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b> to the seat connector as shown in the figure.<\/p>\n<p>            3. Connect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> to the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004051.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004051.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            4. Connect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> to the battery. Connect the power supply red clip to the positive battery terminal, and the black clip to the negative battery terminal.<\/p>\n<p>            5. Verify that the red lamp on the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> is illuminated.<\/p>\n<p>            6. Verify that all persons are standing <b>at least 6 m {20 ft}<\/b> away from the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>            7. Remove the following parts:<\/p>\n<p>              a. Scuff plate (See <a href=\"SM356211\">SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              b. Front seat back bar garnish (See <a href=\"SM356220\">SEAT BACK BAR GARNISH REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              c. Quarter trim (See <a href=\"SM356222\">QUARTER TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              d. Tire house trim (See <a href=\"SM356200\">TIRE HOUSE TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Bend back the back trim. (See <a href=\"SM356223\">BACK TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            3. Using a flathead screwdriver, lift the locking device carefully, however do not remove it.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004052.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004052.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            4. Disconnect the pre-tensioner seat belt connector.<\/p>\n<p>            5. Connect the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b> as shown in the figure.<\/p>\n<p>            6. Connect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> to the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004046.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004046.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            7. Connect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> to the battery. Connect the power supply red clip to the positive battery terminal, and the black clip to the negative battery terminal.<\/p>\n<p>            8. Verify that the red lamp on the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> is illuminated.<\/p>\n<p>            9. Verify that all persons are standing <b>at least 6 m {20 ft}<\/b> away from the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>            10. You can be burned. Do not touch the pre-tensioner seat belt for at least 15 min after deployment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            11. Disconnect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> from the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b>.<br \/>\n          <a name=\"id0810b280110006\" id=\"id0810b280110006\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Deployment Procedure for Outside of Vehicle<\/h4>\n<p>            1. Inspect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b>. (See <a href=\"SM353483\">INSPECTION OF SST (DEPLOYMENT TOOL) [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Switch the ignition off.<\/p>\n<p>            3. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for <b>1 min or more<\/b>. Wrap a wire (cross section <b>1.25 mm<sup>2<\/sup> {0.002 in<sup>2<\/sup>} or more<\/b>) <b>at least 4 times<\/b> around the position shown in the figure for the driver-side air bag module.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004053.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004053.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            3. Connect the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b> to the driver-side air bag module.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004054.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004054.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            4. Place the driver-side air bag module on the center of the tire wheel with the padded surface facing up. To secure the air bag module to the tire wheel, wrap a wire (cross section <b>1.25 mm<sup>2<\/sup> {0.002 in<sup>2<\/sup>} or more<\/b>) through the wheel and the air bag module <b>at least 4 times<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004055.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004055.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">WARNING:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>If the air bag module is not properly installed to the tire wheel, serious injury may occur when the air bag module is operated (deployed). When installing the air bag module to the tire wheel, make sure the padded surface is facing up.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            5. Stack three tires without wheels on top of the tire with the driver-side air bag module, and then stack another tire with a wheel on the very top.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004056.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004056.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            6. Secure the tires with wire.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004057.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004057.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            7. Connect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> to the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004058.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004058.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            8. Connect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> to the battery. Connect the power supply red clip to the positive battery terminal, and the black clip to the negative battery terminal.<\/p>\n<p>            9. Passenger-side front side trim (See <a href=\"SM356199\">FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              c. Passenger-side A-pillar trim (See <a href=\"SM356198\">A-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              d. Passenger-side lower panel (See <a href=\"SM356210\">PASSENGER-SIDE LOWER PANEL REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              e. Connect the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b> to the passenger-side air bag module as shown in the figure.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004059.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004059.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            4. Place the padded surface of the passenger-side air bag module facing the center of the tire as shown in the figure. To secure the air bag module to the tire wheel, wrap a wire (cross section <b>1.25 mm<sup>2<\/sup> {0.002 in<sup>2<\/sup>} or more<\/b>) through the tire and the bolt installation holes <b>at least 4 times<\/b> as shown in the figure.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004060.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004060.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"c1\">WARNING:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>\n<p>If the air bag module is not properly secured to the tire, the tires may fall over by the impact of operation (deployment) and cause serious injury. To prevent this, secure the air bag module properly with the padded surface facing the center of the tire.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>            5. Stack the tire with the passenger-side air bag module on top of two tires without wheels. Stack a tire without a wheel on top of the tire with the passenger-side air bag module, and then stack another tire with a wheel on the very top.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004061.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004061.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            6. Connect the power supply red clip to the positive battery terminal, and the black clip to the negative battery terminal.<\/p>\n<p>            9. Verify that the red lamp on the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> is illuminated.<\/p>\n<p>            10. Verify that all persons are standing <b>at least 6 m {20 ft}<\/b> away from the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>            11. Disconnect the <b>SST (Deployment tool)<\/b> from the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b>.<br \/>\n          <a name=\"id0810b280110009\" id=\"id0810b280110009\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Side Air Bag Module<\/h4>\n<p>            1. Remove the seat. (See <a href=\"SM356082\">SEAT REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Bend back the seat back trim. (See <a href=\"SM353482\">SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            3. Remove the side air bag module. (See <a href=\"SM353482\">SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            4. Install the nuts.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004063.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004063.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            5. Connect the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b> to the side air bag module as shown in the figure.<\/p>\n<p>            6. Quarter trim (See <a href=\"SM356222\">QUARTER TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>              d. Tire house trim (See <a href=\"SM356200\">TIRE HOUSE TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            2. Bend back the back trim. (See <a href=\"SM356223\">BACK TRIM REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            3. Remove the seat belt. (See <a href=\"SM353499\">SEAT BELT REMOVAL\/INSTALLATION<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>            4. Connect the <b>SST (Adapter harness)<\/b> as shown in the figure.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004067.GIF\"><img decoding=\"async\" align=\"absmiddle\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/16ND\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/AMXUUW00004067.GIF\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>            5. Stack the tire with the pre-tensioner seat belt on to of two tires without wheels.
