DTC	U0402:00	Signal error from transmission/transaxle
DETECTION CONDITION		•  The DSC HU/CM received error signals from the transmission/transaxle for 1 s or more with the ignition switched ON (engine off or on)
FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION		Refer to DTC TABLE. (See DTC TABLE [DSC HU/CM].)
POSSIBLE CAUSE		•  The transmission/transaxle could not send a normal signal temporarily (DTCs are stored in the TCM) •  Transmission/transaxle malfunction •  DSC HU/CM malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Step	Inspection		Action
1	VERIFY TCM DTC •  Using the M-MDS, perform the TCM DTC inspection. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC INSPECTION [TCM (CW6A-EL)].) (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC INSPECTION [TCM (EW6A-EL)].) •  Are any DTCs present?	Yes	Go to applicable DTC inspection. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC TABLE [TCM (CW6A-EL)].) (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC TABLE [TCM (EW6A-EL)].) DTC troubleshooting completed, then go to the next step.
		No	Go to the next step.
2	VERIFY DTC TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED •  Using the M-MDS, clear the DTC from the DSC HU/CM. (See CLEARING DTC [DSC HU/CM].) •  Using the M-MDS, perform the DSC HU/CM DTC inspection. (See DTC INSPECTION [DSC HU/CM].) •  Is the same DTC present?	Yes	Repeat the inspection from Step1 If the malfunction recurs, replace the TCM, then go to the next step. (See CONTROL VALVE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [CW6A-EL].) (See CONTROL VALVE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [EW6A-EL].)
		No	Go to the next step.
3	VERIFY NO DTC IS PRESENT •  Are any DTCs present?	Yes	Go to applicable DTC inspection. (See DTC TABLE [DSC HU/CM].)
		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
